On this edition of the Men’s Health Podcast, associate editor Paul Kita takes us through his own transformation from scrawny to brawny using the skinny man’s muscle plan. Kita added 15 pounds of lean muscle to his 6-foot, 146-pound frame thanks to a strict fitness and nutrition regimen.

Even when he felt exhausted from his new routine, he remembered this piece of advice from his trainer, Martin Rooney, C.S.C.S., director of the Parisi Speed School in Fair Lawn, New Jersey: Each time you hit the gym, give your best effort. “You may think it’s just 1 rep you’re missing, but that last rep is when your muscles are working hardest,” Rooney says. “The question isn’t whether you’re a hard gainer, but are you a hard trainer?”

Reporter Kiera Aaron also stops by to recount her trip to the nude beach, and to tell us what we can learn from nudists. Here’s one lesson: Perfect your posture. One nudist that Aaron met sat in a way that made his junk the constant centerpiece of the conversation. When you’re talking to a woman, you want to be relaxed, but standing tall—not slouched. “Straight, open posture shows authority,” says Vanessa Bohns, Ph.D., post-doctoral fellow at the University of Toronto studying human interaction and social relationships. “It’s commanding and attractive.”

Plus, Girl Next Door Naomi Piercey offers her advice on how to end a summer fling, now that the season’s almost over. The most important rule: No flip-flopping!
